All the books are Perfect for Struggling Readers –Amy
The Bella and Rosie series motivated one of my hardest to teach students. She began the intervention program mid-year, reading at text level 5. By the end of the year, she was soaring at text level 18. Her father witnessed a transformation and was grateful that his daughter could read and write so well. One of the literacy keys for this student was her love of Bella & Rosie. Every level had a familiar book that she could depend on! She looked forward to each book and even wrote a personal letter to them. What a joy to watch another child unlock the door of learning!

My class loves Bella and Rosie!! –Karen
My students love the dogs and can't wait to read what adventure they will encounter next. The most important factor for me is that the students are excited when they see the book cover with the dogs on the front. They want to get started! This motivates all of us to get reading! (Posted on 7/15/13)
My students love them! –Janna

Second language learners also love Bella and Rosie. –carla
As a new Reading Recovery teacher, I'm just learning what books work best, and having Bella and Rosie books to choose from made my work successful. Whether it was getting a book with the right language, or having characters to motivate my readers, these books really made a difference. Even the students who didn't seem to like anything liked Bella and Rosie! They kept asking me, are these dogs real? Next year I plan to having them write letters, to deepen their engagement with stories. I don't have all the books in the series yet, so I'm looking forward next year to buying the rest. Bella & Rosie books are like friends to our readers! –Kristi
I have purchased these books for guided reading In our elementary school and the kids love them. They enjoy seeing the same characters reappear in the books. The students feel like Bella and Rosie are their friends! So great for our ESL population too! (Posted on 6/27/13)
Great for Character Studies! –Cara
In my kindergarten classroom, we use Bella and Rosie books throughout the year in guided reading groups. We have a "Bella and Rosie" focus for our character study for the whole class. They are great models for mini-lessons on character traits, predicting what characters will do, comparing and contrasting characters etc. Unlike most books with characters, there are a wide a range of levels to meet the needs of most children in the class. All children can participate and have access to the classroom conversations about the characters which supports the development of accountable talk. Also, my students and I love the reader's theatre, personalized books, and stuffed animals that are available. Thank you for these fantastic books! (Posted on 6/26/13)
Motivation! –Susan
My Reading Recovery students love every Bella and Rosie book! I found another motivation is to purchase the small Bella and Rosie stuffed animals. I tell my students they are to look at while we work together, but they will get to take one home at the end of program if they show me their best effort every day. (Posted on 6/24/13)
Kids love them! –Amy
I love character series books and so do the students in my class. They shop for books to put in their cubbies each week and they are so excited to get a Bella and Rosie book. I wish I had more! (Posted on 6/24/13)
Great books for growing readers! –Lisa Cicurel-Jones
Our first grade team used the Bella and Rosie collection this year as an integral part of our guided reading instruction. Each and every one of my students loves reading about Bella and Rosie! I find the font and text layout to be ideal for young readers. The stories are engaging and the photographs are charming. The kids especially like the books that include a Readers' Theater script. Out of all the books I use for reading instruction, the Pioneer Valley books are the very best! I highly recommend them. (Posted on 6/24/13)
first chapter book –susan
New readers want to read "chapter books" . I was fortunate to have the series where Rosie and Bella get ready to go to the beach, arrive at the beach and have adventures with another dog. Children not only are excited about having a book with chapters, they are thrilled to have a series to read. The photos are adorable and every child I have worked with loves to read about the adventures of these little dogs. (Posted on 6/24/13)
Bailey –Ann
I just can't wait to see what these two little pups will get into next. I am a retired reading specialist but continue to tutor struggling readers. I am currently working with a second grade boy who tries to avoid looking at anything in print but manages to ask about what will happen at Christmas time to these characters in the chapter book Hungry Holidays. This book has helped him build fluency and motivates him to try harder to decode unknown words using a variety of strategies. (Posted on 6/24/13)
Love Rosie and Bella –tracy c
My partner teacher and I love these books. A retired teacher friend of mine actually has a Bichon Frise! She brings her in and the children love it. We love how consistent the leveling system is in these books. "a" books are really "a" books! (Posted on 6/15/12)
very motivating –gina
My child (a frist grader) was reading at a level "c" earlier in the year. She was very defiant and it was a struggle to get her to even hold a book. She fell in love with the Bella and Rosie characters and now enjoys reading and has improved her reading level to "g/h". Thank you Bella and Rosie!! She especially loves the early chapter books. I hope more are coming soon. (Posted on 5/30/12)
Bella and Rosie books are so motivating! –Marie
I am a Reading Recovery Teacher Leader, and I always recommend these books to the teachers I work with. They are so well written, and children really connect with the characters. Kids fall in love with the dogs, so it helps to also purchase the little stuffed Bella and Rosie toys. The other motivator is that children can watch videos of the "real" Bella and Rosie on the website, and can write to the dogs and get a personalized response from them, signed with a paw print. There's a cute bookmark included as well. Many of the children I have worked with have truly learned to read and write because of Bella and Rosie.

"Puppies for Rosie" is a favorite book because it is so funny. –Anne
One of my Reading Recovery students just LOVED "Puppies for Rosie". He laughed and laughed and begged to get to read it to his class. He did a FABULOUS job of using expression and desperately wanted to read another Bella and Rosie book. "Bella and Rosie" books have been a great incentive for him to read and read and read. We look forward to reading many more. (Posted on 1/25/12)
